Backpack - Ozette Triangle

This is a 2 night beginning backpack along the Olympic coast with priority given to Olympia Backpacking Class students.

  • Elevation Gain: 350 ft

Mandatory meeting Thursday night, June 23, for planning, equipment checks, questions,  and assistance.  Bring all gear. 

There is a $5 per night permitting fee for backcountry camping in the ONP.  Please bring $10 to this meeting to reimburse the leader.

Home of hike leader, 1613 Camden Circle SW, Olympia, WA  98512

7:00pm until planning completed.

This is a wonderful beginner backpack, with forest hikes on boardwalks, two beach campsites with beautiful views, ocean wildlife, and time to relax and gain confidence.  First night camp at Cape Alava and second night at Sand Point.  A 3 mile ocean beach hike provides experience for future longer beach hikes along the spectacular Washington or BC beaches.  Casual instruction in all aspects of backpacking will be provided along the route as part of the graduation requirements for Olympia Backpacking Course.

Required Equipment

Use the equipment list provided in class.  Bear canisters are required on this trip.  Please note that since this is a beginning course, if you do not have all the required equipment, plan on discussing your needs at the mandatory planning session with the strong possibility of borrowing gear from leaders or other participants.  Tents, stoves, pumps, bear canisters are all things that can be shared.
