Olympic Coast South: The Wildcatter Coast

Trip

Backpack - Olympic Coast South: The Wildcatter Coast

Shorter but rougher than the northern coast route, the Wildcatter Coast consists of daunting headlands, saturated forest, secluded coves, sprawling tide pools, magical beaches, and the shattered dreams of oil men and realtors who had hoped to exploit this rugged beauty. But now you can extol it! Marvel at roving shorebirds harvesting the surf, and investigate crusty rocks decorated in purple and orange by colonies of starfish. Not least, experience amazing sunsets— a fire-red sun extinguished by a furious ocean and glowing amid jagged sea stacks and bulky guano-stained bird-incubating islands.
