Backpack - Crystal Lakes to Chinook Pass

This is a three day backpack from Chinook Pass to Upper Crystal Lake.

This is a moderate backpack to an alpine lake with good views of Mt. Rainier.  On the first day, we will stop at the White River WIC to get the walkup wilderness permit, and then park the cars and start at the Chinook Pass trailhead, hike over Sourdough pass, and camp at Upper Crystal Lake.  The second day we will do a day hike in the surrounding area in the morning and enjoy the lake in the afternoon.  The third day we will break camp and hike back to the Chinook Pass trailhead.

  • Sleeping bag

  • Bear canister or extra stuff sack and cord designated for hanging food
  • Cooking pot/pan with plate and utensils
  • Toilet paper and shovel or blue bag to deal with waste
