Backcountry Trail Run - Talapus, Ollalie, Rainbow & Island Lakes

Repeat of 2023 Four lakes for July 4th! Thurs morning holiday out&back, with a "toe-dip" in Talapus, Ollalie, Rainbow and Island Lakes. 11 miles, 2,920 ft. elevation gain, fast hike uphill and 4.5-5 mph straightaway and downhill.

  • Moderate/Strenuous
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 11.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 2,928 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 4,580 ft
  • Pace: avg 3.5 mph

Meet at 7 am at Issaquah Transit Center parking lot or at 8 am at Talapus Lake Trailhead. From Seattle, take I-90 to exit 45. Turn left at end of exit and right at first road junction onto FR 9030. Continue 2.4 miles to end at trailhead parking lot.  If full, head back down road and look for parking on right side. Restroom at the trailhead and near Island Lake. Northwest Forest Pass required.

We will travel as a group at a steady pace: fast hike uphill and ~4.5 mph jog on straightaways and low-grade downhill. Plan on a 15 minute snack and viewing stop at Island Lake before we head back the way we came. There may be some lingering snow near Island Lake, so be prepared for a brief stretch of slushy conditions. Poles & extra layer for snack stop suggested.

Please contact the leader before registering if you have not recently done a trail run of similar mileage, or have any doubt about your fitness and stamina to keep up. Rating is high end of "Moderate". Also, if you are a fast runner and feel an overall average pace of ~3.5-4 mph with a couple of stops along the trail is insufficient of a work-out for you, please consider if this trip is a good match for your abilities. We run as a group.
