Rare opportunity for those serious about the Rainier 100 badge. Combines bike ride with scrambling. Expect a long, strenuous day with challenging off-trail navigation. Before requesting permission, please research these peaks. Tell me about your recent conditioning and off-trail scrambling experience. Based on previous trips, I anticipate a 12-15 hour day to complete this counter-clockwise loop:

  • Ride bikes 3.6 miles to Chenuis Falls crossing and stow bikes. Ensure crossing is in place before proceeding.
  • Hike 1.3 miles on Carbon River Road to Ipsut Creek.
  • Hike 4.1 miles on Wonderland Trail and Northern Loop. We will attempt the Lower Carbon River crossing. If we are unsuccessful, the trip changes to summit Gove Peak instead.
  • Scramble off-trail 3.7 miles to summit Wallace Peak, then Tirzah Peak.
  • Regain trail at Chenuis Falls and cross Carbon River 0.8 miles.
  • Ride bikes back to Carbon Entrance, 3.5 miles.
  • Total non-biking distance: 9.9 miles
