Route starts at Chinook Pass, on the east side of Mount Rainier.
Meet at 9:15 at Sheep Lake parking lot, north side of Highway 4:10, just east of Chinook Pass. Approx 2:15 hours driving time from North Seattle.
There may be a slight construction delay just beyond the turn off to White River entrance, so WSDOT says. I do not expect more than a 5 minute delay, if that.
The parking area has been cleared of snow.
Forest Service Pass needed. Rainier National Park pass is NOT needed, unless you wish to make a rest stop at the White River entrance.
6 feet of snow at Chinook pass (a week before the trip) so I expect this to be a snow scramble. (No guarentees.)
Plan is to travel south from Chinook Pass atout 1.5 miles and turn left to ascend the west ridge of Tahtlum. Steep-ish snow possible near top of peak.
(I like this peak. Fairly easy, and off the beaten path.)
