Devil's Lake Campground Parking area ready to walk by 7:00 AM.

A NW Forest Pass or Interagency pass is required to park here, and a Central Cascades Wilderness Permit ($1 online) is required to climb.

I will be in the area, so thought I would check out South Sister again.   The views from the top are pretty great.

Based on the snow or lack of snow, we will either be booting through snow or simply following the well-worn climber's trail to the top (in 2023, there was minimal snow around the end of June).  Although the Mountaineers site lists this as a T3 scramble, it is possible to walk on your own two feet all the way to the top without using your hands, and there isn't really any exposure to speak of.  That being said, you should be comfortable walking on rocks...there are a lot of them.

We will travel as a group, taking a short break every hour or so.  At the top we will take a longer break for snacks, then return back to the cars.

Very poor weather or forest fires/smoke will cancel this trip.

Regarding leader permission:  don't be intimidated into not asking.  Just email me and let me know what conditioning you have been getting up to and how you feel you will do on this trip.  You should at least have a base time of under 2 hours to the Mt Si viewpoint with an overnight pack.  This isn’t an overnight trip, but that is a known quantity test.
