Alpine Scramble - Mount Carrie

A six-day loop of the northern Bailey Range, tagging some summits in one of the most remote parts of the state.

  • Strenuous 5, Technical 5
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 49.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 17,100 ft
  • Pace: aerobic

Madison Falls TH. Specifics to be communicated via email beforehand.

This will be a challenging through-scramble loop of the northern Bailey Range, beginning and ending at the Madison Falls Trailhead. We'll be exiting the Bailey Range Traverse itself at Dodger Point due to the southern exit via the Elwha Snowfinger being closed in the wake of the 2023 fires.

Along the way, at a minimum, we'll tag Cat Peak, Mount Carrie, and Mount Ferry. We'll possibly tag other peaks as the group energy and desire dictate.

Participants must have:

  • Experience with multiple T4/T5 scrambles
  • Experience backpacking for multiple nights
  • Recent history of trips with >5k' vert
  • Conditioning and mental fortitude for sustained scrambling over difficult, exposed terrain while carrying an overnight pack
  • $42 to reimburse the leader for permits

Due to the remote and committing nature of this trip, leader preference given to those  who I've been on trips with before and had a positive experience with. Email me with requests by June 11, after which I'll contact participants individually.
