Trip
Alpine Scramble - Goat Island Mountain
We will do a loop on Goat Island Mountain if conditions are good. After reaching the summit from the NE, we will continue along the ridge to a saddle, then return in a CCW direction following the creek and trails. This is a mentored lead for Shirley Rogers. It has been rescheduled due to weather, and those who were signed up for the other trip have priority.

Meet at Fryingpan Creek Trailhead (same as Summerland trailhead). Meeting time will be communicated to participants.
Carpooling is optional and possible meeting places and times will be included in pre-trip email.
An entrance pass is required for each car: America the Beautiful, Annual Pass, or $30 daily entrance fee.
Timed entry permits will be in effect, Sunrise Corridor, but unfortunately they were sold out at the time of rescheduling. Participants will need to get into Mt Rainier Natn'l Park through the gate at White River Entrance by 7 a.m.
If conditions are good this is an excellent scramble, with great views, a ridge walk, and glacial stream crossings on the way down, totalling 10 mi and 3500 ft gain&loss.
Participants need to be in good condition for the trip, have done recent scrambles, and are confident and efficient on varied terrain. We will stay fairly close together as a group.
Experienced scramblers (scramble grads or those with Mountaineers scramble equivalency) and scramble students may sign up. Students need to have done at least one prior scramble. You must be a member of the Mountaineers and not a guest.
At the trailhead we will do intros and review the planned route, goals and expectations.
Expect a steady moderate pace with about one 10- min break per hour for clothing, party separations, and/or food/hydration, etc. In addition we will occasionally stop to study terrain, map&compass, &GPS to stay on the best /safest route. Lunch break will be 15-30 min depending on conditions.
The route or destination may be changed if the forecast or actual conditions are unfavorable.
