Alpental at 6:00 am.

If the weather forecast looks significantly better on Sunday, July 3, we will go then instead of Saturday.  Whichever day we go, don't make plans for the evening; this will be a long day.  If you're looking for a fast-paced strenuous trip, don't come on this one; it will be strenuous, but I'm planning on a very moderate pace, possibly with time for a quick swim in Upper Wildcat Lake on the way back.

Note that there is a significant descent on the way to Caroline where the trail loses 1000 feet between Gem Lake and Lower Wildcat Lake, which of course becomes a 1000' ascent on the way back.  I'm guessing we'll leave the crowds behind once we pass Gem Lake.
