This is a roadside climbing area above Lake Cushman, just outside Staircase entrance to Olympic National Park. The area has been used for years by the Olympic Mountaineers Branch for their final Rock field trip for both Alpine Scrambling and Basic Climbing students. The area is named for "Mac" McCleary, an Olympia Mountaineer and local photographer who spent much time helping to develop the area. The "Cliffs" contain at least 14 named features, with multiple climbs-many bolted-in a wide range of difficulties. It is on Forest Service land, and permits are not needed. Local Campgrounds at Big Creek(NFS) and Staircase(NPS) offer overnight camping opportunities.
