Field Trip 1 - Seattle Naturalists Intro Natural World Course - Snow Mountain Ranch
This field trip will take you to the Shrub Steppe to identify wildflowers and birds on Cowiche Mountain. Your apps and field guides will be of considerable value in this endeavor. It is a full day outing.

This field trip will give you the chance to practice using all your senses and tools, to appreciate and to identify shrub steppe wildflowers, and potentially many birds. You'll learn to use your charts, bird & wildflower apps, and field guides.

Birds you may see include California Scrub Jays, Mourning Doves, Gray Partridges, Lewis' and Downy Woodpeckers, Northern Flickers, Ruby-crowned Kinglets, Juncos, White-crowned, Vesper & Sagebrush Sparrows, Western Meadow Larks and Horned Larks, Western Kingbirds, Lazuli Buntings, Northern Shrikes, Ravens, Northern Harriers, Rough-legged Hawks, and many others.
Meet at the far north end of the Ravenna P&R under I-5 at 65th and Ravenna at 6:45 am. If you want to make your own arrangements let the leader know. We will ultimately meet at Cowiche Canyon Conservancy's parking lot for Snow Mountain Ranch off Cowiche Mill Road at around 9:30 am. https://www.cowichecanyon.org

Required Equipment
Bring your smartphone or tablet with Washington Wildflower Search, PNW Wildflower apps. Bring the charts for flower families. Bring a guide book if you want. Bring your binoculars for birds, and a camera for help in identification if you so choose.
