Improve your telemark skills without long lift lines in a very small and friendly group setting.

Alpine skiers, our instructor can help you lift that free heal and bend that knee into your first telemark turn.  If you have some telemark experience, she can provide the coaching you need to hone that turn and take it into the off-piste world of steeps and deeps.  Because that's what it was designed for.

This lesson is an add-on that requires you to also register for day-use or an overnight at Meany Lodge for the same day as your lesson.  Please see the Meany Lodge Calendar to register for day-use or an overnight.

Be ready to spend the day outside, with appropriate layers of clothing.

TELEMARK Lesson notes

In 2024, lessons will be offered on four Saturdays:  1/13, 1/27, 2/3 and 2/24.  (This mostly matches the "B" series ski lessons, but with 2/3 swapped for 2/10.)

One ski lesson at Meany is typically 2 hours long delivered in two 1-hour sessions.  We will meet at 10 am and 2 pm at the tow hut. Since we only have one telemark instructor, we are requiring leader's permission to make sure that the class is made up of students with similar ability levels.

Meany specializes in helping alpine skiers of all ages with their first time on tele-boards, and in introducing folks who have mastered The Turn on groomers to the joys of powder and other off-piste conditions

COVID notes

Please see our Winter Weekend page for the full set of COVID mitigations being used this year.

Meeting time and place

We will meet at 8:15am in the overnight parking area of the Crystal Spring Sno-Park.  The Meany Lodge snowcat “Tom Cat” will do one pick-up from the parking lot and bring you and your snowboard gear up to Meany Lodge to the slopes.  It will return guests to parking lot around 5:30 pm.   Get your snowboard boots on and your snowboards handy after parking.

Parking info

Don’t forget that Your car will need a State Sno-Park Permit

Required Equipment

Telemark ski gear, and your helmet.   Please bring your own or rent equipment in town - the Snow Sports Director (daniel-del-norte@outlook.com) can help answer your questions.  The Mountaineers does not provide you with equipment, and we do not have equipment to rent at the Lodge.

Attempting to telemark ski with AT (Randonee) gear is not recommended.  While the telemark stance can be useful when touring undulating terrain, most AT bindings are not robust enough to handle the forces generated by the telemark turn.

Helmets are strongly recommended.

Handwear: The rope tow wears out gloves and mitts quickly, so we recommend wearing leather work gloves over glove liners.  Welding gloves also work well.  Meany also has several styles of leather over-mitt protectors available for sale.   Most people stay plenty warm while skiing.  We recommend bringing a separate pair of warm mitts to wear while you are not riding.
