This course introduces the fundamental skills necessary to lead climb single pitch routes protected by bolts. A successful applicant will have already mastered top rope belay technique and by able to top-rope at least a gym 5.9 with clean style. Priority enrollment is given to Everett Basic Climbing Course graduates or current students. This course is for adult Mountaineers members only. Must be 18 years of age or older to register.
The following skills will be covered.
- Lead belay technique, dynamic belay
- Lead climb essentials, clipping, rope management
- Climber / Belayer communication
- Sport Anchor systems and top-rope rigging
- Route cleaning
- Strength training and general fitness

Helmet, harness, rock shoes, quick-draws (6-10), personal anchor (PA), cordellette, 4 - 6 locking carabiners, belay device, belay gloves, Gri-Gri (optional), 2 - 4 non-locking carabiners, light assortment of sewn and/or tied runners.
