Multi-pitch module lecture.

Actual location TBD. We will probably not meet at the YMCA, but this is a good placeholder. I will be in contact with everyone a few days before the meeting to confirm time and place. Please plan to begin at 7;00 PM and be finished before 9:00 PM.

 Lectures for the Multi-pitch Module of the Crag Climbing Course will combine discussion with skill practice. This includes topics such as: 

  • Choosing an objective
  • Anchor building and qualities
  • Belaying from an anchor
  • Lowering from an anchor
  • Small Party Rescue
  • Efficient climbing - reading the info, reading the pitch, efficient movement
  • Pitch transitions - swinging leads, block climbing

Please bring your gear to these lectures. Gear includes:

  1. Helmet, harness, rock shoes
  2. 1 personal anchoring device with a locking carabiner
  3. A belay device with locking belay carabiner
  4. A rack of trad gear (if you are taking the trad portion) with enough draws to use your rack
  5. 10 quick draws (if you are taking the sport portion)
  6. 3 locking carabiners in addition to the others already mentioned (standard sized)
  7. Small water hydration pack with water pouch and enough room for food and warm layers.
  8. Cordalette
  9. Nut tool and carabiner (does not need to be full size) and a knife

The ideal traditional rack to have for this course includes:

  1. Set of Cams - one cam each matching the following Black Diamond sizes: .3, .4, .5, .75 #1, #2, #3
  2. One carabiner (7 total) for each cam to rake them (these do not need to be full size)
  3. Set of nuts/stoppers
