Leading on Rock 1 Field Trip - Squamish

Learning to set Pro and start Leading multipitch routes on rock.

We will start by (or before) 8:00 AM on Saturday, Sept. 14 in Mamquam Campground near Suamish, BC. We will be finished by late afternoon on Sunday, Sept. 15. There will be an option to camp at Mamquam Friday night. Carpooling is highly encouraged.

Objectives:     Practice on knowledge and skill gained during leading on rock lecture to become more efficient on multi-pitch rock climbs.

  • Belay Methods
  • Leading
  • Rappelling

 

Discussion and Demonstration of more Advanced Techniques and Practice of some of these:

 

  • Advanced anchors and determining how to select
  • Additional useful knots such as: garda hitch, klemheist hitch, Yosemite finish
  • Discussion of aid and French technique
  • Climbing using different rope scenarios, coils, double, half
  • Pitch transitions- swapping leads and block climbing, simul-climbing

Required Equipment

Gear each student MUST HAVE for Class - Pro Will be available for the class:

  1. Helmet, harness, rock shoes
  2. 1 personal Anchoring device with a locking biner
  3. Auto blocking belay device with locking Belay biner
  4. 4 Alpine slings 60cm 
  5. 2 Alpine slings 120cm
  6. 12 standard sized biners (2 for each sling)
  7. 3 locking biners in addition to the others already mentioned (standard sized)
  8. Small water hydration pack with water pouch and enough room for food and warm layers.
  9. 20' Cordalette.  This can be made out of 20' of 7 mm Nylon Cord,
  10. Nut tool and carabiner does not need to be full size) and a knife
