Our medium clearance vehicles bottomed out against snow between the ruts for the last ~300 yards west of the trailhead. We had snow for the entire ascent with micro-spikes used up to the clearing at ~3400’ where we changed to snowshoes. Although the last 500 vertical feet on the ridge had a hard layer underneath, there was adequate snow to negotiate it without crampons.
A beautiful sun-basking spring day with sweeping vistas to points NW and South. A great workout at just under 5000’ gain and ~10 miles total distance. Total time was 8.5 hours, with 5 hours up, 2.5 hours down, and warm, calm conditions at the top for an hour long lunch. Photos from this and other trips can be seen here.
