Winter Scramble - Sourdough Mountain (winter)

Gorgeous views, great weather, but recent snows turned us around at the constriction at ~5,500 feet elevation.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Clear trail to ~3200’, then microspikes on hard snow until ~4200’ where deep fresh snow required snowshoes. The constriction at ~5,500 feet turned us around due to the steep unsettled snow on both sides, with loose, deep, and unsettled conditions on the crest.

A great day in the mountains in spite of not reaching our destination.  Everyone did a great job breaking trail in snowshoes as our huff and puff train chugged up the mountain.  Total time was just under 8 hours.
