Winter Scramble - Mount Washington (Snoqualmie, winter)

We had sun breaks, icy trails, fresh snow, and a summit in the clouds - what more could you ask for?

  • Road suitable for all vehicles

The parking lot had several inches of snow so I parked at the top of it - most people chose to park on the road.  The lower third of the trail was fairly compacted and slippery so we wore micro-spikes to start.  Eventually we got up to where there was obvious fresh snow.  The track got narrower as other parties obviously turned around.  Eventually we got to a point at about 3100' where no one had gone to it was time to break trail.  Lucky for us a young solo guy came bounding by us and broke trail for us - score! :)

The summit was in the White Room so no views but we shared treats and hot chocolate and relished in what we had accomplished.  The trip down was much faster.  Total  trip time was about 7 hours - 4 hours up and 3 down minus the time on the summit.  Everyone had a blast - great way to close out the year.
