Winter Scramble - Gove Peak (winter)

Great approach on Bikes, and hike in. Tough time consuming scramble.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Minor blow down on Bike Road approach. Icy slick log footbridge just before Green Lake, wisely decided to use micro spikes to cross. Trees snow covered at 3700' snow on the ground above 4000' 6-12" of dry snow above 5000'.

3 of us Biked into green lake TH at first light. Followed 120' bearing after bridge just before Green lake, worked around cliff bands to the left.  At 3760' switched to 155 bearing to gully at 4080'  Followed gully on 175' bearing to saddle. Headed NE on ridge over false summits, better drop below ridge to SE. Windy cold conditions on summit. Fairly good views, weather obviously moving in.  On summit at 12:45. Biked out w/ headlamps.

R/T data:  10 hrs car to car.  6 mi. bike ride w/ 350'gain, 40 min.  2+ mile hike, w/ 1100' gain. 1  1/2 hrs. Tough 3 mile scramble, w/ 2100' gain. 7 1/2 hrs.

We nailed it with limited daylight hours, Epic scramble.  One micro spike lost on summit ridge.
