Throughout the seasons this park's mood changes dramatically. The accessibility factor is key to photographing it in all its moods. Most of the park is under the canopy of the evergreens. Whatcom Creek winds its way through four waterfalls with the main waterfall just steps from your vehicle. The view of the main falls can be enjoyed from an old stone bridge which has lots of character.

There are many trails that branch out from the main trails. There are a couple that are hard to see and you will know if you want to go for it or not. Do so at your own risk. These short steep trails offer great composition for photography. Do not attempt under muddy conditions. You can use the main trails for running or just walking. Whatcom Falls is a great spot for a workout in a beautiful area. The trails extend in all directions connecting neighborhoods so you can run for many miles. There is cycling on those trails.

The Derby Pond area offers some birding throughout the year. I have seen eagles here as well as herons. The pond is also used for youth fishing.
