Trip Report

Washington Column/South Face

Due to questionable weather forecast, chose to push for a one-day climb. Left camp at 5, hiked in, and started up by jugging pitch 1 at 6:20AM. Two team members freed pitched 2 and 3 efficiently, putting us on the Dinner Ledge at 8:20. Jumped on Southern Man bolt ladder (pitch 4), followed by C2 aid pitch (5) at bit past 11 AM. Started to experience strong winds and see ominous looking clouds as we started on pitch 6. Evaluated the condition, and decided to turn around at top of pitch 6, around 2PM. There was time to do a pitch or two further, but weather was not cooperating.

Possible consideration for future: Tackle the route an see how fast and high a team can go in one day to gain aid climbing mileage.
