Vesper Peak

Vesper Peak

  • Road suitable for all vehicles

Sunny day with afternoon thunderstorms in forecast. All creek crossings on logs or rock hopping - pretty straight forward. Snow completely melted below about 5000'. Combination of snow or rock for ascent on the slabs above there. One participant elected to remain at creek crossing (the one beyond Headlee Pass) while the rest of the group summited. Even with fairly leisurely pace (~8 hours RT), we were back in the valley in the trees before thunder and a few rain drops. Then, driving out on the Mt Loop highway, we experienced extremely heavy rain and hail.
