Trip Report

Urban Walk - Ballard Locks

We tested section 1 of the newly created Olmsted 50 trail.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Well kept and easy.  Mainly sidewalks and a brief section of trail above Golden Gardens.

We kept a relatively slow pace as we tested this trail section.  We walked from the Ballard Locks to Golden Gardens along the water.  This section required more situational awareness as bikers and walkers shared the pathway for a while, and poor urban planning made the walking path very narrow in places.  We tracked numbers of stairs and landings as we went up from Golden Gardens to Loyal Heights.  Once there, we walked over to Phinney ridge, and then down to Woodland Park Zoo.  We stopped for a brief snack break at Salmon Bay Park.
