Top Rope Rock Climb - Exit 38

A beautiful day with beautiful, educational climbing.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • The route was pleasant. Eva woke with a fever and could not make it. Helen made sure the excursion continued. Helen and Ushani took the time to show the way to Easy Street and Squishy Bell, pointing out some trail markers. It appears that there may be a new trail being built!

This may have been the last opportunity to climb 38 routes for the year -  a bit chilly at times, but clear and dry.

We climbed routes at the FarSide. We started at Easy Street. 4 slab routes rated 5.5 and 5.5. These were long routes - the 60 meter ropes we brought were just enough. All participants got an opportunity to top rope each and the recent grads of the leading class got to lead some routes. All got to do cleaning and rappelling.  There were challenges with the wind (communication) and visibility to the bottom of the long routes which were great learning opportunities with the instructors, who also demonstrated how to anchor the belayer in, as there was a drop off behind them.

We moved on to Squishy Bell. 4 routes rating 5.5, 5.6, 5.8 and 5.9. The leading grads again got an opportunity to practice their skills. We were also shown how to approach, set anchors and drop ropes from the top.

On the way back to the trailhead,  we stopped by GritScone and did some recon for a possible future trip?

It was a fantastic day for rock climbing and learning!
