Trip Report

The Brothers/South Couloir

May 9, 2016. Group of 4 went up on Mothers Day weekend. Perfect weather for the hike in to the 3000ft camp area. Took about 4 hours into camp. Some blowdowns but trail through the Valley of Silent Men is easy to follow. Woke up early for a 5am start to being in a misty cloud layer. Well flagged for the most part, only lost the trail for a short bit. 4 hours up to the summit. Had to use crampons for about the last 700+ feet as it turned hard and icy before the sun hit the upper slopes. Fairly straight forward following the standard route. Broke out of the clouds about the last 500ft to sunny skies. Ignore the day climbers doing it mid-day saying no crampons needed, take the gear. Snow up to the last 100ft of the summit block.
