Trip Report

Slippery Slab Tower/Northeast Face

A team of six (three instructors and three basic students) met at 6:00 am on 27-Aug-2015 at the Monroe Park & Ride. Arrived at the Tunnel Creek trail head at approximately 7:30 am, and started hiking on the Tunnel Creek trail approximately 7:45 am, on to Hope Lake and Trap Pass. Arrived at base of climb at 11:00, and started first pitch at 11:30. Everyone arrived at the summit by 1:30 pm. We set a hand line from the top of the last pitch to the summit, for everyone’s safety. A double-rope rappel was set up from the tree at the top of the last pitch with two (2) 60 m ropes, which safely reached to the base of the climb.

PLEASE NOTE: The tree used to rappel off the route is half-dead. While it looked to be solid to rappel from, please check the tree before rappelling off the route. This may not be a safe place to rappel if the tree continues to weaken. ALSO, THERE IS LOTS OF LOOSE ROCK ON THIS ROUTE. Test all hand holds and pro placement, and watch for large loose rocks on the climbing route.

We all descended safely off the route by 3:30 pm, and arrived back at the trail head at 6:20 pm.

Weather: mid-70’s, sunny, light winds.

A near-perfect day in the mountains!
