Seattle Basic Alpine SIG Field Trip - Rock Climbing - Vantage (Frenchman Coulee)

Amazing climbing early in the season without anyone around. Students got lots of practice climbing on real rock for a change.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Dry, early spring with it being Vantage cold in the shade.

The pit toilets are 100% full and need to be cleaned out =(

Got a great day of climbing with the SIG in early in the season in Vantage. The weather was in the low 60s with little wind. Nice in the sun, cold in the shade. We arrived at 8:30AM by the pit toilets and we were the only car there, as such (having avoided the Feathers) we had our picks of the walls. The goal of this SIG rock Field Trip was to have fun and practice climbing outdoors on real rock, and have a good safe time as a group. This is our time to gain more experience in real conditions with partner checks, communication, belaying and lead belaying, rappelling, climbing, cleaning trad gear. We had 4 ropes with us which was just the right amount for this size group, and lots of trad gear. We  started in an area with easy routes and maybe progress to a single 5.8 route which was just hard enough for anyone having not climbed before. Throw on their pack and it was a completely different experience.
