Trip Report

Pilchuck River: Machias to Snohomish

Flow was in the range of 401-482 CFS. There were a few class II drops before the first bridge, then it became a fairly uneventful class I stretch most of the way with a few riffles intermixed.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Some intermittent wood but no portages.  Most of the way there is the sound of traffic in the distance. We passed 6 bridges. This is a suburban stretch with little value for a recreational packrafter or for a class.  It may be fun to do in high water as a speed run, between 1000-1500 CFS.
