With a forecast of rain making scrambling Lane impossible, and rain also forecast for the east, we elected to attempt a series of minor summits between Blewett Pass and Mission Ridge. In a 5 ½ hour trip, gaining 2,100 feet with some off trail travel, trail hiking and road walking, we summited Mt. Lillian and South Mt Lillian but were stymied in an attempt on Bentrim Hill by the appearance of a trail not on the map just where we were expecting the trail to our goal to appear. We did encounter a memorial in the deep forest to two men in the James family (presumably father and son), complete with two metal flacks and the inscription: “The only way to take sorrow out of death is to take love out of life”. A wet, foggy and muddy day, but nonetheless enjoyable for a small, hardy party of scramblers.
