Melakwa Lake

Nine of us were fortunate enough to choose a dry sunny day in November for our pilgrimage to the lake. Six of us brought microspikes (yaktrax would not have been enough), and by organizing a relay to shuttle the traction devices back and forth, we were all able to cross the icy parts of the trail safely and make it all the way up to Hemlock Pass and Lake Melakwa. The partially frozen waterfalls were photogenic; lunch was well-earned in the sun at the top. A few blowdowns added interest, and some sweet smelling cedar. Best part was the human element: the group was interesting, congenial, kind. A great day.
