Trip Report

Marmot Pass & Buckhorn Mountain

Upper Big Quilcene Trail was snowier then I expected.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Marmots Pass has collected a decent amount of snow over the past week with some parts of the trail up to two feet deep. The snow begins about a mile in from the trail head and added approximately an hour and a half to our ascent. Recommend snowshoes or skis.

The hike from Marmots Pass to Mt Buckhorn was decent with the snow thinning considerable once you reach the ridge. We glissaded down from the saddle just southeast of the mountain and it probably saved us a couple hours and several miles of hiking just watch out for rocks.

Took us about 7.5 hours round trip.
