Kaleetan Peak/South Route

Kaleetan Peak/South Route

  • Road suitable for all vehicles

We went clockwise around Melakwa Lake and then counter-clockwise around Upper Melakwa. There is a bootpath from the inlet that leads into a copse of trees which nearly dead-ends; there is an exit but there's potential for resource damage there. Continue on talus and stay low to find bootpath that leads past first gulley (ends in a headwall) and the last copse of trees before Melakwa Pass is clearly seen. Second gully should be visible beyond the trees. Head up gulley and stay low for 20 feet or so where you'll find a safe scramble route to the upper gulley on the right. Continue to ridgeline. 30 more minutes brings you to the summit. Summit register is not on the true summit but on a neighboring plateau northwest of it.
