John Wayne Pioneer Trail (winter)

Cross-country Ski - John Wayne Pioneer Trail (winter)

  • Road suitable for all vehicles

2/14/2016
Despite the rain in the forecast, five of us snowshoers showed up at the P&R for today's low-elevation trip on the John Wayne Pioneer Trail. We started from the Annette Lake trailhead (and were smart enough not to try and drive all the way to the main lot; much too slushy), following the trail up to the railroad grade and thence eastward two miles to the West Portal of the Snoqualmie Tunnel. Due to the warm and wet, the snow on the grade was soft and a touch slushy, but nobody in the group seemed to mind too much. Snowshoes were definitely needed on the grade, unless one really enjoyed postholing. We had the route all to ourselves until the return trip, when we met folks headed towards Annette Lake.
