Trip Report

Intermediate Snowshoe - Mazama Ridge (Mount Rainier)

A good time in the snow with a great group.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Wet loose snow over a crusty layer. We would have been post-holing without snowshoes. Previous tracks had been wiped out by weather, giving us a better field to do our own navigation.

The road to Paradise was bare all of the way. Parking wasn't a problem. We didn't see the mountain, but the group had a great attitude and we had fun. We didn't go as far north as we usually do after ascending the ridge as visibility was low and we didn't think skiers could see us. As we headed south, clouds lifted from the Tatoosh Range giving us a view.
