The road was snow covered with some packing from snowmobiles. Off road some snow over a icy crust.
The forecast for the day was rain down low with snow higher up with a high of 38 degrees. Much to the delight of the group the rain was limit to a few light showers. The weather was cloudy with a little fog and was on the warm side.
We snowshoe up the road and cut one switchback lower down and found the snow conditions to be a little snow over an icy crust which we were breaking through. So we stayed on the road until about 4500 ft level, at this point we followed a sub ridge up the Sasse Ridge.
