Dirt trails out of the parking lot at Timberline. Broken snow/rock patches up to around 9,500'
It probably comes to no surprise that in mid July, the west side routes on Hood are no longer in. There was a positive TR on CC stating that the Reid Headwall was still in late June, so 3 weeks later we thought it was worth a peek.
Looking from the Illumination Saddle, we could see that Crevasses were open on the Reid glacier, but more problematic was the broken bergshrund at the start of the couloirs. We couldn't see the hourglass on the Leuthold from the Illumination Saddle, but decided an early am attempt at the route was not worth the risk.
