Guye Peak 03 05 16
A wonderful day in the mountains with a great group of Mountaineers! Cloud cover and rain was replaced mid-morning with sun and blue skies for most of the day. The warm weather and no wind had us down to our base layers. Due to the recent rain and mild temps, the snow was very soft. This was even at the higher elevations, and snowshoes were necessary most of the entire trip. We followed Commonwealth Creek on the east side for approximately 1.50 miles (3,565’) to where there is a log for crossing. This log is narrow and has snow on it so crossing is cautioned. However, on the way back we found a snow bridge crossing higher up the creek with a significant snow pack, thus avoiding the log crossing. Braided streams and creeks running high in the area presented route finding challenges. Higher up are rock bands to be avoid. But we worked it all out as a group, made it to the summit and saw beautiful views all around. It was a very fun day in the hills!
