Guye Peak/North Route

Student Instructional Scramble

  • Road suitable for all vehicles

April 23,2016 Student Instructional Scramble.Trip length 8:00-4:00 with +/-45 minute lunch break and including some instruction on snow travel: walking in balance, kicking steps, plunge step, glissade, and ice axe arrest.
Cool cloudy weather with a bit of drizzle in the morning. not much view from the summit but weather cleared for a good view up on the way down and from the cars. We parked near the PCT trail head on the side of the road as the parking area was still snow filled. We used snowshoes in the basin as the snow was slippery, once we gained started up the ridge we took them off and the snow was decent for walking.
There was no snow on the log bridge in basin which made for safe and easy stream crossing.
