Trip Report

Goat Island Mountain (Mount Rainier)

Trip date: 6/14/2014
Miles: 9.5
Elevation gain: 3600'
Elapsed time: 8 1/2 hours.

We did a loop trip, from the Wonderland trail junction, head north .5 mile until reaching the east ridge. We followed this ridge until around 5900', where we traversed south until reaching another east ridge. We followed this ridge until it met the main ridge. There are some rock outcroppings that can be avoided by staying lower on the left side.

Despite the forecast of 40% rain, we had no rain. Views were somewhat limited, but we could see the lower Emmons Glacier & moraines.

We took the standard route back to make a nice loop. Some short glissades after reaching the saddle at 6200'. Several small creek crossings before reaching the Wonderland trail (still in snow at this elevation).
