Fragrance & Lost Lakes

June 11, 2014, Wed. – Fragrance & Lost Lake, Rock Trail Loop

This was a variation of the standard trip. Parked at the Lost Lake TH. Paved with toilets. Started hiking at 9:30. Hiked the Interurban to the Fragrance Lake Trail, took side trip to view point, looped Fragrance Lake, then the Double Diamond Trail to Cyrus Gates. A warm and fast ascent. Had lunch at a picnic table and enjoyed the sun and views. Then down the new Rock Trail. This trail is superbly built and the area is gorgeous with cliffs, huge rocks, ravines and deep green ferns. Turned left on the S. Lost Lake Trail and then around the Lake on the east side. This is another beautiful area. Another break on the rock high above the Lake. Turned up the Overlander Trail. Very muddy in sections and a mess from the dirt bikes. Another rest stop in the clear-cut after a hot climb with views of Mt. Baker and the San Juan’s. Fast return via the S. Lost Lake Trail and the Fragrance Lake Rd. Back at the cars at 17:30.

A very nice trip and a good group. Stats were: 11.7 miles, 3070’ and 8 hours.
