Fortune & Ingalls Peaks

Fortune & Ingalls Peaks

  • Road suitable for all vehicles

Trip was posted as Fortune and Ingalls, but just did Fortune.
This turned out to be an excellent early season snow scramble. Generally you can’t get to the Trailhead until May, but the road was clear the whole way. We followed the route of the trail toward Ingalls Pass, which shortly became hidden in the snow. We kicked steps from 5000’ on to the pass.
From the pass we went up the east basin of Fortune where we plowed through fresh powder snow 18 to 24 inches deep for 2 hours before we attained the cornice free SE ridge about 150 yards before the summit. The ridge was fine to the summit. On the descent we glissaded 1500’ down the basin just east of the south ridge, then continued down on foot until we found the trail.
9 hours round trip.
