Field Trip 2 - Seattle Naturalists Intro Natural World Course Magnuson Park - Union Bay Natural Area

Great birding spot with lots of variety!

  • Road suitable for all vehicles

First time going to Bowman Bay and I was amazed at how many variety of birds we saw! Below is a list of just some of what we saw while walking the trails on a very cold, windy, and damp day.

  • Robins
  • Crows
  • Anna's Hummingbirds
  • Spotted Towhee
  • Song Sparrows
  • Several pairs of Goldfinches
  • House Finch
  • Three types of Swallows and a Swift
  • A nesting Osprey
  • An active Bushtit nest
  • Several Killdears
  • Canada Geese
  • Half a dozen Bald Eagles (one juvenile)
  • Pairs of Red-Winged Black Birds
  • Great Blue Herons
  • A male Shoveler and a single duckling (no sighting of female or other ducklings)
  • Spotted Sandpiper
  • Gadwells
  • Downy Woodpeckers
  • Black-capped and Chesnut-Backed Chickadees
  • Bewicks Wrens
  • Yellow-Throat Warbler
