Day Hike - West Tiger Mountain No. 1

Great weather for a fairly tough evening conditioning hike. Unfortunately the last half mile to the Hiker's Hut is blocked by downfall.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles

  • The route is mostly in really good condition. There are signs posted describing reroutes on the trail. But several trail signs are missing. The Railroad Grade trail is one. The old sign is visible heading down, but not up. The last half mile to the Hiker's Hut has quite a lot of blowdown.

The evening was  fine. Spring flowers are blooming in the forest and we saw a woodpecker. The trail up to the Hiker's Hut is steep and makes for a good conditioner.  The  last half mile to the Hiker's Hut has been blocked off during logging for the past several years. We were hoping to make it there this time as logging has ended. I saw trip reports from people who had been there this year, but none mentioned the blowdown. There was quite a lot and the majority of the group preferred to hike up behing the radio tower instead.

We enjoyed dinner up there and then returned to the cars before dark.
