Trip Report

Day Hike - West Tiger Mountain 1-2-3

Soggy but successful hike on the shortest day of the year.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Many sections of standing  and flowing water on the trail and about 10 blow-downs that need to be negotiated, but nothing that proved dangerous or insurmountable.

Our group of 6 intrepid hikers set out under steady rain to do a clockwise loop of the West Tiger Peaks, starting on the High Point Trail. At Fred's Corner we discussed shortening the trip, but the group consensus  was to continue on to our three summits as planned.  At ~2500  the rain turned to wet snow. All were relieved to reach the Hiker's Hut for a short reprieve from the rain/snow. Six is s perfect fit for the hut. After a short lunch break we went on to Tiger 2 & 3. First time I have ever been to Tiger 3 when no one else was there. We finished the hike in quick order and were back to the cars in <5 hours. We saw a total of 5 other people during the hike. Statistics from Gaia were  8.7 miles/3201 gain. Great rainy day destination with a terrific group of hikers.
