Trip Report

Day Hike - Tiger Mountain Lowlands

A beautiful hike with a last minute detour to West Tiger #3.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • The trails were overall in great shape. The conditions were dry and cool. There were sections of the trail that were rather steep where poles proved to be very helpful.

We arrived at the parking lot around 7:30 AM at which time there wasn't an issue with finding a space. A discover pass is required where we started.

This hike was unusual in that the planned route was a loop around the Tiger Mountain Lowlands. As the group made their way up the first part of the loop, where most the our elevation gain would be, everyone decided that a detour to Tiger #3 would be preferable given the whether (both the weather and taking a different route are atypical). Everyone was well prepared gear-wise and with consensus we made our way to West Tiger #3 (the photo is from our way up). The route taken was adhoc in that we used navigation equipment (map + GPS) to decide the route everyone would be comfortable with. The hike ended up being shorter than planned (5 miles instead of 6 miles) though there was a lot more elevation gain (2000ft instead of 1000ft). Sometimes changing the hike up can prove to be a fun experience given that everyone is prepared and willing.
