Trip Report

Day Hike - Talapus & Olallie Lakes

Beautiful Evening for a hike. Still lots of snow on trail.

  • Road rough but passable
  • Snow is melting out late. WTA trip reports stated people did fine without microspikes, so I didn't require them. Had I been on the trail beforehand myself, I would have asked for them.  The stretch before Talapus  Lake is the worst in terms of hard packed and slippery snow. Then there is a long stretch of trail that is bare and dry. And snow starts again before Olallie Lake and gets quite deep.

It was a beautiful evening. This is a great trail, but the road has many potholes.  We stopped short of Olallie Lake because the snow was deep there with pockets that had melted out. Someone could easily have hurt an ankle punching through. So we went back to a dry spot for dinner and then stopped at the shore of Talapus Lake.
