Trip Report

Day Hike - Talapus & Olallie Lakes

A gentle hike through the forest on a well maintained, popular trail to Talapus Lake and Olallie Lake. Great for beginners or those who are looking for a relatively easy trail close to Seattle and the Eastside.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Some muddy areas to avoid, as well as rocks and tree roots in the trail. There were hardly any mosquitoes -- only a few curious chipmonks keeping us company while we were enjoying lunch.

This was my first hike as leader, with Bill Sanders as my mentor. We set out on the trail at 8:30 am and finished a little after noon, leaving the parking lot at 12:30 pm to drive back to Tibbets Valley Park & Ride. It was a beautiful day, and the muddy spots weren't as bad as I'd experienced on a hike on this trail earlier in the week. The parking lot at the trailhead was full with a few cars parked along the road, even as early as 8 am, so it was good that we had everyone in two cars to carpool from Issaquah. We had a beautiful view of our lunch spot at Olallie Lake and took in the view at Talapus Lake on our way back.
