Day Hike - Snow & Gem Lakes (Snoqualmie)

Nice weather, great group of hikers, social pace, and plenty of photo ops. Out of 12 registered, 4 cancelled the day before, 1 no show.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • No snow up to the ledge of the snow lake but packed snow from ledge down to the water.

After reading recent trip reports and checking with other hike leaders, hike leader decided to forego Gem lake portion of the hike due to packed snow still covering the trail past snow lake.

Met at P&R at 9:15, carpooled to TH, and started a bit after 10AM after waiting for a no-show. Parking lot was already full. Good thing we carpooled. Trail to Snow Lake is snow free, most of the trail is rocky, exposed to elements, and there are a couple of small water falls cutting across the trail. Clear skies made the sun feel more intense. Came across many hikers who were on their way back.  Hike end point was at the top of the ledge. Climb down to the lake is still slippery due to packed snow, so most of us enjoyed the views from the ledge. No bugs on the trail but a lot of bugs atop the ledge and the trail down to the lake. Car pooling and earlier start highly recommended.
