Trip Report

Day Hike - Pinnacle Peak/South Trail

Beautiful evening for a hike.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Trail is in reasonable good shape. You can mostly travel on trail, but for short distances you need to be on the road.  This is a fairly steep hike and the trail is rocky in places. All down fall has been cleared.

An exceptionally warm evening for March.  We had a geologist on the trip who explained the formation of the andesite columns for us. We had a very social group and everyone had fun. The clouds obscuring Mt. Rainier and surrounding peaks lifted by the time we reached the top. The Mt. Rainier viewpoint is on the way down.  The parking lot is closed, but there is plenty of parking along the road. Indian plum is blooming now.
